Here on Music Island we build community, cooperation, and contribution through the study of Music fundamentals.
Together we MOVE AND DANCE, SING, PLAY INSTRUMENTS, EXPLORE THE WORLD AROUND US, PERFORM AND HAVE FUN!!!
All our students learn world music using percussion instruments while our third, fourth, and fifth grade students learn to play the recorder. Our Music Island students learn the Island Way of Kindness, Respect, and Participation.

Brett Barnes holds a Master's Degree in Music and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas.
He also holds Orff level Certification from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He is a singer, songwriter, multi- instrumentalist and professional musician.
Mr. Barnes has performed with such music legends as Aretha Franklin, Andrea Bocelli, Wayne Newton, and in the showrooms of Las Vegas in Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You.
He currently serves as the Nevada Chapter President of the Percussive Arts Society. Mr. Barnes passion is sharing music with his students and playing the drums with Las Vegas Blues band the Moanin' Blacksnakes.
4th and 5th grade students participate in learning the recorder and building musical skills in this incentive program. Students earn colors representing the Olympic rings to qualify for the bronze, silver, and gold medal rounds.

MUSIC ISLAND D.R.U.M.
Island D.R.U.M. is open to 4th and 5th grade students and is a performance based percussion ensemble that builds character and develops ensemble skills.
DISNEY MUSICALS IN SCHOOLS
Walter V. Long Elementary is one of 6 Clark County Schools chosen to participate in this unique program. Through a partnership and grant with The Smith Center and Disney Theatrical group, students prepare and perform their very own musical production.
